Wilhelm Bauer's Seeteufel ("sea-devil"), a 52-foot-long, treadmill-powered submarine boat. In this cutaway view, we can see the little orchestra that is said to have played the Russian national anthem -- underwater -- at the 1856 coronation of Tsar Alexander II in Kronstadt Harbor.
