Halloween

The good news is that I found this week's bug. The bad news is, it reflects a deep flaw in the design of my thesis system. The gripping news is that I can probably leave it alone, kludge around the problem, and insert a "don't do what I did" section in the dissertation.

We went to Wednesday dinner, and then over to Ralph and Lori's. Dinner was at Piper's Pub across from Fatheads. I wanted to give it a try. Their servings are stonkeringly vast (Kevin Watkins didn't finish his, if you know what I mean); I knew I was doomed when I worked through one of sausages in my toad-in-the-hole, came up for air, and realized it was sausage one of four. I finished half of my meal in the end. Wasn't the way my grandmother makes it, but she's a Long Islander so what does she know I suppose. Anyway I like the texture of hers better.

I ate half of a Scotch egg.[1] This is an egg covered in sausage and deep-fried.

We walked around R+L's neighborhood, looking at Halloween decorations (proceeding up front walks to reverse-engineer notable pumpkin technology). It's a pretty area, lots of vertical relief and curving streets.

Also we tried out a game called "Zombies!!!". You run around blowing away zombies and playing "surrounded by zombies, bwahaha" cards on people, trying to be first to the helipad. Dee was peeved because Mike mind-controlled her into the middle of nowhere, but she came back (after a drama where Ralph had the game down to one zombie, one bullet, and missed) and won. I never got quite close enough to spring my plan of throwing meaty human haunches to the zombies and, while they were temporarily distracted, walking on by to the helipad. My impression is that the game lays out a lot territory and goodies that you'll never use because you're heading for the helipad, but that's just from one game.

[1] Something told me that "Scottish" was used in every context but three: whisky, mist, and tape, or something. And eggs, I guess?
