food

We made noodles with peanut sesame sauce and optional cucumber bits. They turned out tasty, and provided an opportunity to use the food processor. I really liked the combination with a rather sweet sparkling cider (not hard cider cider, but juice of apples), but D preferred water with it. Next time I make it I'll try to dial down the peanut level, I think.

This has been a productive week: did some nifty example code for manipulating musical scores (I liked the "collapse a hierachically nested score" function that turned out to be two lines long); wrote it up, finishing the applications chapter; documented the standard library API, which I had left out; also got various non-research cruft done. My first week or two after a vacation always is, but this time I plan to keep it up for the whole semester so I can avoid a big smoking trainwreck at the end. (The department wants me to graduate, and I can't say I disagree.)

The damnedest thing about this is that if I do manage it, it will mean that I could have gone through the program in probably three years, working at this rate and without side-tracks.
From Bruno Ernst's book on Escher:

In 1970 Escher moved to the Rosa-Spier Home in Laren, North Holland, a home where elderly artists can have their own studios and at the same time be cared for.
