She came bouncing in (I'm working from home today, for some value of "working") and said she wanted to go drive to the Squill Geagle and get soap, so we did. She did great. I'm not a very good passenger; I get nervous with parked cars. It's tough learning in the city with narrow streets and traffic lights and people always behind you. But we made it there and back, even the deparking and reparking on both ends. On the way back I didn't even sweat up my shirt, I'm getting so good at this.

We stopped in at Penzey's and got real bay and cinnamon, chipotle pepper, galangal, and mahleb (a kind of sour cherry pits). "Oh, what do you do with these?" the woman staffing the store asked about the mahleb. Heck if I know, but they smelled nice and I'm sure I can google up a recipe. Maybe this lambropsomo", Greek Easter bread. Or Armenian sweet bread. Or in a cherry mead, come cherry season. I wonder if they contain cyanide.

Okay, really MWH.
Speaking of driving lessons: one of my failings as an instructor turns out to be that I can't keep left and right straight. I've always had some difficulty with this (couldn't tell one from the other until in first grade my special ed teacher taught me the "your left hand makes an L" trick), but not usually so often these days. I kind of imagine it's from being on an unusual side of the car.
