Ooh, new park. I like it. It keeps going further down and further in, woods opening into windy meadow, seaside bluffs, stairs and landings zigzagging down through young maples that feel like a miniature of a Béla Kalman photo of people dwarfed by uncannily towering tree trunks, down the road past the large stinky sewage treatment plant, down to the south shore, and finally east to the point where the beach ends, where I watched the waves smash and radiate back off the bluffs. People have built sculptures and structures in the driftwood.
I got to thinking about how many of their songs are essentially structured around one form or another of the slash operator.

  • Traditional "romantic conjunction" slash operator: Phil / Jesse slash (yes that's Gramm / Helms).
  • Stylistic conjunction: "One-Eyed One-Horned Flying Purple People Eater" / bluegrass slash.
  • Song topic conjunction: death of Rasputin / state of American health-care system slash.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] ralphmelton++ for tipping us off. It was fun. My favorite song was actually the last one they did, the "on the other side of the river, we'll meet all our possessions again" song, which is truly a great little song.
