martial arts, bowling, Spin the Bottle
Mar. 8th, 2003 04:13 pmLast night was a busy one.
7:30, kajukenbo. We did slow-motion kicks, which wipe out my balance and endurance so quickly that practicing them is clearly a short path up the hill. Several advance-and-kick sequences, which were fun. To the side of the hall is a monster drum, maybe five feet across -- dunno what that's used for, but I want to whang on it! Remembered to pay for class.
drakemonger and I were saying something about Pittsburgh and CMU, and one of the other students chimed in that she went to CMU too (but too early to know
dr4b).
Dart back home since I didn't load Dee's bowling paraphernalia in the car before, and to drink water and sugar since it struck me I'd eaten a bagel so far today.
9:15, met at Sunset for bowling. The wait was 40+ minutes, so we ducked out to Lailani. I decided to go up 8th NW and cut over around 100th, got slapped around by diagonals and ended up 180° disoriented, but bulled through to Greenwood.
Around 10 we got a lane. I was cranky because I couldn't find a ball that fit my fingers. Actually maybe everyone started out more or less cranky except
mh75. I bowled a 92 with a pair of strikes in it, which is more fun than bowling a uniformly blah 92, and it had an entertainingly tragic last frame where I needed a spare to meet 100, got a split, aimed to clip the outside of one pin and got it -- but shaved it so fine that it missed in front of the other.
Then it was 10:40, had to duck out retroactively really, throroughly illogical traffic backup all across Denny but I made it into Spin the Bottle just as the lights went down for start of show. Which was a tease, but anyway. Let's see:
Then we convened to watch a couple of episodes of Read or Die: "It focuses on a bibliophile, Yomiko Readman. She loves books to an extreme and is a substitute teacher, as well as a secret agent. She has special powers in which she is able to manipulate paper."
And home to catch
dr4b before mean bedtime.

Then it was 10:40, had to duck out retroactively really, throroughly illogical traffic backup all across Denny but I made it into Spin the Bottle just as the lights went down for start of show. Which was a tease, but anyway. Let's see:
- Short freaky play where a guy trying to put the moves on his tailor turns out to be a suicide assistant, and a Nazi, and to have a swastika tattooed on his (prosthetic) glans. Also weird shit happens.
- Reading of a cute story about a boring guy who ignores the possibilities inherent in a talking fly and music coming out of his biceps.
- Duo sang two songs including a cleverly-written one calling for "more sex in the White House".
- Counterfactual and stunningly redundant (this is a feature) monologue on the history of music, with beat-boxed examples.
- Recorded music with slide show on sheet, "This is me / this is my house".
- Essay on pop music and 89.5 FM, which did you know is out of Nathan Hale High School? Neat.
- Reading of a ghost-type story about The Crop Duster and the girl who wears his Boots, with pauses for story-reader to decipher own handwriting.
Then we convened to watch a couple of episodes of Read or Die: "It focuses on a bibliophile, Yomiko Readman. She loves books to an extreme and is a substitute teacher, as well as a secret agent. She has special powers in which she is able to manipulate paper."
