Scotch broom is a noxious weed, but I have to say it's pleasant to sit on a rock in the canal, under the canopy of a broom, for ten minutes after lunch, looking under the water. You don't see the stone, the ripples remind, you see the light. A boulder underwater wavers; a stone below the characteristic size of the ripples beats like a heart. Scotch broom flowers smell of peaches and banana, but synthetically.

One of our building's conference rooms is named Ballard.

Before I left work, I looked at a page on growing tomatoes upside down, which suggested those five-gallon paint buckets, with handles. Instead I stopped by the Indoor Sun for two sturdy pots I can drill hanging-holes in. On the way home, some people had set out free stuff: a futon frame, two tires, and four five-gallon paint buckets. I didn't hang tomatoes before it got dark, though.

[livejournal.com profile] rubricity's fire at Golden Gardens on Saturday:

[livejournal.com profile] hattifattener looks so serene as he has the flames dance in his glasses. I had no luck catching them.
