The hypothesis that platypuses use their electrosensitivity for capture of prey is now generally accepted. However, no complete behavioural study on platypus prey detection and capture has been undertaken. Construction of a "platypussary" specially adapted for behavioural studies of this sort has been completed. Electrodes placed at the bottom of a tank will emit electrical currents that imitate the currents given off by the prey of the platypus.
