Sushi Express has a big new menu on their door, facing out. The back side, facing in, says

Scratch scribbling at the sign-maker's?

The city sent me a notice of PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT IN A LANDSLIDE PRONE HAZARD AREA. It concerns a project to turn three lots into a park, right near my building. It's a hilly area, so you can see how it might be landslide-prone, and I imagine these notices let them both cover their butts, and gather any tales unknown to city records of the form "Well, back when I was a boy, they built a park on those lots, and you know what, the park sank into the swamp."

The unsettling thing is that the notice has a map, showing the three lots in question, and the roads on the map are not right. Forty-fifth Street doesn't do that. It doesn't connect through from Palatine to 1st NW, and it certainly doesn't connect through from 1st NW to 2nd NW. I trust the geotechnical engineers they speak of have to be aware of this. I hope maybe this map just happens to date from before the last landslide in the area.
