Pioneering nematode researcher Nathan Cobb wrote in 1914: "If all the matter in the universe except nematodes were swept away, our world would still be recognizable,... its mountains, hills, vales, rivers, lakes, and oceans represented by a film of nematodes." [Quoted in Baldwin, Nadler, and Wall, Nematodes: Pervading the Earth and Linking All Life.]

Nematodes are fascinating. I first learned about them in my oceanography classes. Makes me want to go back and read my textbooks. Heh.
