Innovations were -- Texans, pray do not smite me -- since I didn't have enough black beans, fava beans; since I didn't have any bell pepper, crunchy red onion spears; and since the chipotle peppers didn't give the smokiness I was hoping for, a little hickory-smoke marinade goo. Chili is wonderfully forgiving.
