A guy says he did the first one. Could be. Is that image of the first one you remember seeing?

I think the first one I saw had more zigzaggy lobsterishness to the claw. But there's no reason to think the first one I saw was the first one ever.

The true claw wouldn't need recognition, just our ongoing admiration/support/copycatting.

I saw this one early on, if not the very first time. I can't imagine that it was parallel evolution in graffiti (the way some word coinages might happen near in time, plausibly multi-sourced), and most normalish people wouldn't try to claim credit for something so silly. So, sure, I'll buy it.

There was this one time [livejournal.com profile] wjl and I and some other people were at Primanti's back in pittsburgh and we were discussing their default insertion of coleslaw into the sandwiches. I came out very strongly against coleslaw; I always ask for them to leave it off. William, however, quipped: it's not just a good idea. It's the slaw.

I think I've only seen the one on Mercer along the 15/18 bus route. It's shaped like that.

That's the first one I saw, yes. Someone had to be first, so why not him?

If only the original CLAW had been misspelled and featured almost-right-but-twitch-inducingly-wrong grammar. Then we'd have no problem matching this guy's blog post to the start of the movement.

(I can't like people who whine, "I WANT THE CREDIT!")

The first one I saw was over on the road that winds behind the deli/gas station over by the Montlake entrance to 520...Interlaken, maybe?

John says he's seen about 5 of them in Seattle.
