Robert Rich concert

Opening act #1 was a new-agey couple with big drone bowls and a breathy flute and a digital delay. Some nice looped flute riffs. Opening act #2 was a fellow going by "Vampire Nation" who triggered a mass of pretty interesting sounds from an XP-50 and then had to go and do the routine at the end where you tip it over and stalk off the stage.

Robert Rich had a very cute Christmas-light system, a couple of keyboards, some instrument operating on the slide guitar principle, and a substantial analog modular. His set went backwards in time, from his new stuff, which I hadn't heard, through Propagation-era drum'n'flute, to a track that I think was reinterpreted from Trances. Most of his newer tunes were clockwork-sequenced modular-synth burblings, with timbre tweaking. Kinda noodly, but probably good work if I sat through with more concentration. I find it weird to sit and listen to ambient music in a club. Well, and I rarely just sit and listen to music (and do nothing else) the way I used to; I think I'm out of practice.
