resurfacing

I haven't read LJ since Friday because we went to Knoebel's for the weekend (re which I can guarantee dr4b has written an entry at length, so I will just say the camping was fine and dry and it's my favorite amusement park in the world, which isn't saying a whole lot, but I mean I actually liked it: trees covering all over, place not laid down on a Nebraska-scale slab of asphalt, short lines, fun "Flyer" ride where you feel you probably have sufficient rudder control to drive the system out of its design envelope and kill yourself and your passenger, swans, friendly punk-Satanist kids playing DDR, no cover charge, mini-golf!) and this week I've been holed up whispering through my defense talk by day (tried talking all day and it murdered my throat) and revamping my resume for industry and generating cover letters by night (I think I've made a plausible if specious case that the PhD is not a worthless frill for an industry employer). Hi.
Thesis defense tomorrow, 2pm EST WeH 5409. I think I've got my committee on board, though I've gotten dragooned into constructing a formal semantics during revision. (I should have known the cheeky little "Where's the semantics? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering semantics" section was a strategic misstep.) I wish I'd had time to talk through my talk one or two more times for flow, but I think it'll go okay. I feel much better now that I've shaken some feedback out of the committee.
Lunch with external member. Wednesday dinner at the Sharp Edge for celebration/obliviation.
