LJ comment count, DXM hates my liver, leaf-cutting ant bacteria, compound red-eye
A useful thing I didn't know about LJ: you can turn on an option to encode the comment count into URLs to comments, so by the color of the links on your friends page you can tell if there are comments you haven't read. It's in your "Personal Info" settings.
Note to self: two 3/4-doses of dextromethorphan-based cough syrup (2/3-doses if they don't figure on some of the nasty gunk sticking in the dosage cup) taken 24 hours apart is too often for my metabolism. Better yet, avoid altogether. Moderate but obvious pupil dilation today, and slight floaty kinesthetic disturbance. I wonder if I should get my CYP2D6 looked at for future reference.
You know those leaf-cutting ants, the ones who carry leaf fragments underground to feed their fungus farm? It turns out their fungus is all one clone, a global monoculture. A certain mold would spread all through it -- except that the ants bear a patch of bacteria that secrete an antibiotic against it. Stuff in the NYT article about how this relates to evolutionary velocity in sexual vs. asexual reproduction.
Look at how wonderful ""red-eye"" is in a compound eye!
