mead, no sunflowers

I was going to code today, but made mead. I forgot how long it takes if you go the boiling route (because I didn't check the provenance of this honey, not that it really makes much difference), what with all the heating and the cooling. Especially the cooling. I used about ten pounds of blackberry honey for three gallons, and didn't check O.G., but figure it'll be on the light side. Pitched Wyeast "sweet mead" yeast.

Some creature ate my other two sunflowers sprouting.

There was no fermentation going by the 27th, so I pitched some Wyeast "dry mead" (store was out of the other). That got it going. Possibly the first time I was impatient and didn't let it cool enough -- felt okay, but that's all I can think of.
