Patchy clouds all day, and I wanted sun to go around and take pictures of trees, before they leaf out fully. Around noon the sun came through for a while, but by the time I was ready to go out, it was behind a large raft of cloud. I waited, and took pictures of the African violet's almost-flower.

When a mostly-clear patch showed, I went out on a tour of nearby trees I had noticed at various times while driving around, and jotted down on a parking receipt.

Pictures.

Your photos of trees are wonderful! I love distinctive trees like that.
You have such a great talent for capturing nature. I wish my photos would come out as well.

Laurie gave me a great book for Christmas last year called "Meetings with Remarkable Trees" by Thomas Pakenham because we saw redwoods and Sequoias last summer on our trip to California. The book is mainly photographs and was based on trees in the UK. You may find it interesting.

Yes! I saw that book in Powell's and read about half of it, and got a copy for a friend. Some of the pictures are awe-inspiring.

That very big maple at Ravenna/60th has been cut down. :( I don't know why.

That's such a shame! It was such a grand tree.
My parent's neighbors recently tricked them into cutting down their maples for no good reason. I'm still upset about that.

I went over and looked at it; I hoped to count its rings. But the whole center was rotted, rough and crunchy, so the rings weren't visible. It may be they had to take it down. (Well, you can hold up any tree, if you go to the effort.)
