what I have learned recently: running lights for a bidirectional ferry

Bidirectional ferries (you know, "End #1" and "End #2") are assigned a special pattern of running lights that does not need to be switched around when they switch which end is the bow.

Where did you learn this? Hmmm? What is the special pattern?

Reading my grandfather's Basic Boating, 2nd ed. I haven't managed to google up the pattern; maybe you will have better luck? It was a large-powerboat type of light array, but with red in front of green on one side, and vice versa on the other, or something.

Hmm. It seems like one ought to be able to figure this out simply by hanging out by the Seattle ferry dock for a while. I'll keep this in mind the next time I'm down that way.

You know I've wanted to know this too.
