vet visit

I took Mephisto in to get his ongoing sniffle checked out. The vet thinks that Mephisto
probably has a secondary infection on top of a URI, but suspects there may be some additional underlying reason for the URI to be lingering. Maybe some anatomical situation, maybe yet another virus. Looked in ear for signs of nasopharyngeal polyps(?) and didn't see any -- next step in investigating that or other reasons would be an exam under general anesthesia.

He recommends:
  1. Course of antibiotics.
  2. Worming, just in case.
  3. In five days or so (and + 3 weeks), assuming antibiotics are effective, repeat FVRCP vaccination -- says this can help throw off a URI.
  4. If at any time during this Mephisto appears fairly healthy, have him neutered, if the clinic will have a possibly-infectious cat.
  5. He also sees some slight clouding of one eye that he can't account for, and suggested the Animal Eye Clinic look at it to see if it might be involved.
So now I know how to give a cat liquid antibiotics. The circle of clenched teeth which protects a cat from administration of nasty bubble-gum-flavored fluids has a gap in it, behind the big fang (the canine?). It's not too hard. Lots easier than an eyedrop in each nostril.

It's also easier than squeezing in ear drops into a cat's ear. As Squish and I know well.

Wow. Those action figures are better than Bibleman!

Also, cat pictures?

I've always had a terrible time getting the exposure on pictures of black cats.

Here's a pic.
