pine aphid honeydew honey

[livejournal.com profile] jonsinger has acquired "pine honey", which turns out to be pine aphid honeydew honey.

Beech aphid honeydew honey is New Zealand's largest honey export -- and do read about "the black colour of trees and plants with a honeydew source [...] due to the growth of a black sooty mould (Capnodium fungus) on the surplus nectar exuding over the plant and sometimes even the ground".

Oh, thanks for the pointer! I don't always make it all the way through his entries the first time. If ever.

I love specialty honeys!
