I just got some CDs. Okay, that's old, but that's not what I'm here to talk about. I got them from cdconnection.com, and I realized I've been buying from them for something over 15 years. Since before the web; you used to telnet in to their site. (Wired article, speaking of oldness.)

I am sad to report that
$ telnet cdconnection.com
Trying 208.218.142.11...
telnet: connect to address 208.218.142.11: Connection refused

(If you still buy CDs, by the way, I recommend cdconnection. Never had any problem with them, and I don't see how other retailers get away with $14-$16 prices. They have eight-track tapes too.)

So, I've got a half-finished ecommerce site that I need to finish and launch one of these days (probably after I finish coding for Steamcon 2038)... I hadn't previously considered it, but I think I need to implement an ssh version of the site too. A dedicated ssh server with no real shells.. a guest account for people who just want to browse, or who want to create an account.. and it'll use your website credentials to log you in as a customer. Browse the catalog (no images, of course, but everything else should be usable), make purchases, etc.. yeeeessss...

ASCII-art images. Your site's gonna sell cows, roses, and honking big swords, right?

Also Romulan Birds of Prey and Perth, Australia.

There's a project at work that I may be able to come up with an excuse to sneak a finger implementation into.

I just realized I did ASCII art in jr. high typing class. As "You finished early, here's something 'fun'" assignments, we'd be given a sheet of instructions, like "23 M, 15 space, 5 ;" and when you typed it all out, line by line, you'd get a picture.

We did use electric typewriters.

That's a pretty clever way to keep Jr. HS students busy!
