Seattlites: collect fennel pollen now

If you have plans to collect fennel pollen, it is time to turn plans into action.

Maybe even a little past time -- my fennel has gone to fruit but the neighbors' look still in flower; I'll hit them up.

What do you do with fennel pollen - is that where the spice comes from? We have lots of fennel in our yard but it is only there to attract the beneficial insects because I rarely use it as a spice and wouldn't know how to harvest it.

Yep, it's used as a spice (expensive). You can cut the flowerheads off, put them in a paper bag, and wait for the pollen to fall to the bottom. Them remove all the critters. :)

To clarify, I'm pretty sure the common spice is the seed.
