I thought in the shower that I should take the chili out of the freezer to thaw, something I forgot to do last time I intended to do it. But this time I did it. And I remembered to make a note about Charles Lamb, and something about washing out a dish reminded me that if I was going to Half Price Books, I should finally remember to bring the 15%-off calendar coupon. And store the rest in the glove compartment for future use. Finally, when I couldn't find my new Allegheny map book (which I needed for route optimization to the Half Price Books in Bethel Park) in the car, and was about to go back and look in the house, a tutelary daimon hinted that I should look under the '98 Atlas.

Ah, there was more. When I started the car, the radio was turned on and tuned to DUQ, and they were playing "Heroin". Velvet Underground. W-"Cool Jazz"-DUQ.

I went to Frick Park first. Chilly, and windy, but visited by robins, hundreds of robins. (What is the collective noun for robins? A flush of robins?) They seem to be trucking spring in chunk by chunk this year. To be constructed on-site. There was a couple walking with a boy and a clumsy bouncy puppy chasing each other, except the boy turned out not to be theirs, that is to say they left him there in the playground without looking back. They took the puppy with them.

An interesting haul. The Orchid Thief, a nice Primo Levi, a book on sacred sex in art which I had to pick up when I saw the naturally-occurring Loving Couple Parsnip Roots (U.S.A., c. 1920), a book on laughter with a chapter on the science of tickling, a rather self-helpy book on Are You Getting Enlightened or Losing Your Mind that nonetheless seems to reference interesting sources, stories by Jhumpa Lahira that my grandmother recommended, and a cheap CD of solo dumbek played by some very, very white-looking guy. Good, actually.
