The Strip was hopping today, maybe with the nice weather. People spilling off the sidewalks, people eating the fried fish patties and noodle bowls you can get along the street, sidewalk vendors of used CDs and new T-shirts and exotic reptiles and all kinds of St. Patrick's Day paraphernalia. I went because I'd heard Lotus had pea shoots, which they did; I also wanted to experiment with some salmon from Benkovitz for sushi. Oh, and I found pomegranate nectar! at Labad's.

Any Pghers interested in a movie tomorrow afternoon? "In Bulgaria, the government was collaborationist; violent anti-Semitic youth gangs roamed the streets; Jews wore the yellow star and did forced labor. [...] Christian churches, politicians, and others fought laws stripping Jews of their rights, and ultimately prevented their deportation to places including Treblinka." The Optimists is a documentary playing at 1 pm tomorrow at Regent Square.

There's also a showing of The Gleaners and I 5 pm Monday in McConomy (at CMU). I don't know what the deal is with that, but that's a movie I did want to see.

Dryers that turn out not to have dried my clothes displease me. It's also a time I never have a pen and paper in my pocket to write a bitter little note.

Yeah, the strip was fun today. We have a nice chunk of king salmon from Benkovitz sitting in the oven right now, actually. Mmm.

I was tempted by that too. They suggested the farmed Atlantic was even a little fresher, and indeed it was better than most salmon I've had in Pittsburgh sushi places.

Bleah.

I'm interested in both movies and unable to attend either :/

Maybe next time :)

Another movie I noticed was that Dark Blue World, by the fellow who directed Kolya is at Regent Square this week. But, hmm, on MRQEing it doesn't sound like people think it's as good.
