This is much better than I thought. At the ordinary business of biography, Boswell is moderately dull, but on page 281 when he meets Johnson the book really gets off the ground. I'm looking forward to meeting Mrs. Thrale (she and Boswell have been sniping at each other in footnotes and marginalia) but this is really fun and I wish I knew more British history. (The children in E. Nesbit make me feel like a barbarian.) More when I finish the whole thing, maybe.
