The weather was so beautiful today that I went again. I tried to do the north side today, though I never did find the "North Bluffs" that the signposts said existed. South side wins on variety of terrain.

At the lighthouse a woman was watching two kidsyoung men round the point in a boat that looked like they'd lashed it together to escape a desert island. These were Susanna, Tristan (that can't be right), and some other dude. They beached the boat, asked where they were, and took it apart -- driftwood planks, mattress spring, logs -- and threw it back on the beach, except the tarps that were the sail. A man fishing salmon (they were jumping out of the water) stopped by to watch. They said they'd gotten up at 6:30 to put a boat together, come maybe ten miles as the crow flies; it was nearly sunset now. We talked about visiting Europe, commiserated about having no jobs. Susanna turns out to be responsible for some amount of the sculpture assembled on this beach. At sunset I went down to the end of the south beach to try to get a picture; kinda missed it. I might have gotten one of Rainier, though.

By the time I got back north around the point to the trail back up, it was dark in the shade of the trees. Near the end I had to decide whether to take a wide paved trail that probably went to the car, or go back the way I came, on a tatty little trail that I knew damn well (swath of my arm still hurts now) had a stinging nettle growing into it. Happily the paved one worked. I should have saved one shot for the full moon rising over the trees.

Yesterday I must have been there pretty much at high tide. Today was a little later. Sometime I should see low tide.

Wow, that sounds like a beautiful place. I'm glad you're finding new places to love out there.
