passed!

They signed my card. Lots of friends came to the defense -- it was good to have you there, those of you who were there. The talk went pretty well, and the questions were sensible. I'm sorry I didn't have Krispy Kremes. Or brought that tin of Chung Kee Phoenix Rolls to be consumed.

Some revisions to do, but they should be manageable. Couple of weeks, maybe; I'll look them over tomorrow.

congratulations!

wish i could've made it, but dissertation defenses (even as an observer) and nausea-inducing headaches don't mix. :)

Yay for Eli! We're gonna have a Dr. Brandt now!

[personal profile] dr4b 2002-06-12 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
hehe, the funny part is, his dad is a retired eye doctor, so he'll be the second Dr. Brandt. or the third. or something. I forget.

Ah, damn, I'm late. Sorry I couldn't be there. I eagerly await your final draft! In the meantime I'll have to read some books. Perhaps I'll get this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0028646827/), or maybe this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0262680823/), or possibly this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0262522616/)... Do you have any suggestions for a book which would be helpful to me, with my nonexistent music background?

[identity profile] eub.livejournal.com 2002-06-13 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I eagerly await it too. :)

Dodge and Jerse is the best all-around computer music book of those three. I have an older edition you can check out, and one of Curtis Roads' book, which is a nice reference on various topics. My thesis is all about twisting the knife in Csound's guts, so you can see I'm not that enthusiastic myself about the Csound book, but Rick Boulanger's a good guy and I hear it's a good book if you do use Csound.

Go you!

See, I told you you'd be fine - all that hard work had to pay off!

[identity profile] ralphmelton.livejournal.com 2002-06-13 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations!

(Does your week of work include developing the semantics you'd mentioned?)

[identity profile] eub.livejournal.com 2002-06-13 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Did I say a week? I meant two weeks. :-> I'm hoping the semantics clocks in at a week or so of that, but I really don't know what we're aiming for with it yet.

yay!
